Brightstar data breach being investigated by law firm

Key Points
- Brightstar Global Solutions Corporation reportedly became aware of a data breach on November 17, 2024
- Unauthorized third-party gained access to sensitive information of 103,789 individuals
- Process of notifying affected individuals seemingly only begun in October 2025
A major breach of Brightstar’s corporate systems has seen the sensitive details of 103,789 individuals potentially be accessed by an unidentified external third-party.
A law firm, Schubert Jonckheer & Kolbe LLP, which specializes in class action cases has begun an investigation into the breach and Brightstar’s response, which may have broken state and federal laws.
The data leak was seemingly known to Brighstar on November 17 2024, but the individuals affected were not informed until around October 3 2025.
In this time, it’s believed that the third-party may have had access to names, contact information, dates of birth, government ID documents and numbers, Social Security numbers or other tax identifiers, financial account information and health data, among other things.
The San Francisco-based law firm wants those affected to be aware that the lack of communication about the breach from the company may entitle them to damages payments and an injunction requiring changes to Brightstar’s cybersecurity practices.
Good to know: Brightstar is part of IGT, with the lottery arm rebranding as Brighstar in Summer 2025
The Rhode-Island based lottery supplier provides technology systems and products to lottery operations across the world.
It is the main lottery supplier to over half of US jurisdictions and has longstanding contracts in many of those states.
If the company withheld information regarding the breach, it could have put the affected individuals in danger of identity theft and other privacy violations.
