Fernando Vieira steps down as IBJR’s Executive President

Fernando Vieira has announced his departure from the Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming.

Fernando Vieira, Executive President of the Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming (IBJR), confirmed via social media that he is stepping down from his role, which he had held since March 2025. 

Vieira joined the institute in October 2024 and brought with him international experience from highly regulated markets.

In his farewell post, Vieira reflected on a period he described as “especially rich,” mentioning both the rapid growth of IBJR’s membership base and the regulatory complexity of Brazil’s betting sector. 

He credited the institute with helping to build a new market framework, still in its early stages of maturity, while working to provide “a safe, fair and sustainable environment for bettors” and helping against the damage of the country’s extensive illegal market.

One of the closing initiatives under his leadership was the launch of the “No more goat in the room” campaign, which combines TV spots, radio ads, airport panels and social media messaging. 

The campaign seeks to guide bettors toward platforms authorized by the Ministry of Finance’s Secretary of Prizes and Betting and dismantle myths surrounding regulated operators.

Vieira did not disclose his next role but stated he was leaving “with a sense of duty fulfilled” and hinted at a new professional challenge soon to be announced.
