The Rosario Racecourse in Santa Fe, Argentina, traditionally associated with horseracing and wagering, is moving forward with a plan to diversify its facilities by adding tennis and padel courts to its oval grounds.
The public works tender attracted only one bid, submitted by the current concessionaire, El Óvalo Sports, that already operates 16 football and futsal pitches within the venue. If approved, the project would see the construction of seven tennis courts and ten padel courts, along with support infrastructure such as locker rooms, offices and removable stands for hosting tournaments.
The concession is expected to run for 15 years, with a two-year extension option. The bid is currently under evaluation, with a decision anticipated in about 30 days. Construction could begin in November and is projected to take six months.
Good to Know: La Plata Racecourse is also expanding its offering by promoting itself as a cultural destination with concerts and outdoor events alongside horse racing
The new facilities would occupy roughly 11 hectares of unused land on the oval’s grounds, on the side facing Ovidio Lagos Avenue. The development comes as part of a broader transformation of the racecourse into a multi-sport complex, which already includes rugby, hockey, football fields, and leisure areas linked to the Institute of Physical Education (ISEF).
In recent years, the venue has incorporated non-racing features such as gastronomic spaces, signaling a shift toward a broader entertainment and sports hub while maintaining its role as a key gambling landmark in the city.
