Brazil: Montecarlosbet rebrands to Play

The operator is one of the 77 companies authorized to work in the country.

The Secretary of Prizes and Betting of Brazil’s Ministry of Finance (SPA) has authorized a rebranding move by Sistema Lotérico de Pernambuco, the operator behind Montecarlosbet and other brands operating legally in Brazil.

According to Portaria No. 2.007/2025, that was published in the National Official Union Diary, Montecarlosbet will now operate under the new name Play.

The other two brands under the operator, MCGames and Montecarlos, will remain active and unaffected by this change, which will only affect Montecarlosbet.

Alongside brand approvals and market monitoring, the Brazilian Government has advanced a parallel initiative for consumer protection as the Ministry of Finance confirmed it is developing a unified self-exclusion system that will allow bettors to close all accounts across licensed platforms at once.

Besides that, an interministerial group formed by the Ministries of Finance, Sport and Justice has been tasked with drafting a national policy to combat match-fixing in the country.

Brazil has 77 authorised companies and 79 licenses issued, covering 180 brands currently active in the market. Of these, 74 operate directly under Ministry of Finance authorization, while five continue under decisions from the Federal Court.

By requiring formal approval, the regulator ensures that authorized operators remain compliant with Brazil’s framework for fixed-odds betting and online gaming.
