VGW confirms ‘difficult but strategic’ decision to conclude Canada operations

The iGaming operator also began the process of phasing out its sweepstakes promotions in the state of New Jersey on July 29, including Chumba Casino, LuckyLand Slots and Global Poker.
Key Points
- A VGW spokesperson stated the decision “wasn’t taken lightly” and the company focus is on “ensuring players are fully informed about the changes”
- The operator stated its Canadian business is “relatively small” compared to US operations, where a “vast majority” of its consumer base currently resides
Virtual Gaming Worlds (VGW) has confirmed its decision to end online social casino operations in Canada to Gaming America, as residents of the country will no longer have access to sweepstakes promotions such as Chumba Casino and Global Poker.
“We can confirm that following careful consideration, we’ve informed players of a decision to phase out our brands that offer products in Canada,” a VGW spokesperson said.
“We understand this is an adjustment after many years and our valued Canadian players may be disappointed. This decision wasn’t taken lightly and our focus is on ensuring players are fully informed about the changes, and that this transition is as smooth as possible.”
The VGW spokesperson would go on to state a primary factor behind the decision was that its business in Canada is “relatively small” as compared to its US operations, where a majority of its consumer base currently resides.
“Ultimately, this is a difficult but strategic, isolated decision. Our Canadian business is relatively small, as the vast majority of our players reside in the larger US market, where we will concentrate our management focus, resources and investment going forward,” the spokesperson said.

The iGaming operator also began the process of phasing out its sweepstakes promotions in the state of New Jersey on July 29, including Chumba Casino, LuckyLand Slots and Global Poker.
On August 26, the operator will no longer accept sweeps coins for gameplay, and any mail-in requests for sweeps coins from players will not be processed. By September 24, redemptions will be discontinued on any VGW-affiliated sweepstakes casinos in New Jersey.
