Detroit casino revenue falls 5.2% year-over-year during March 2025

The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has released the state’s casino revenue for March 2025, with revenue having decreased by 5.2% year-over-year for a total of $117.4m. The city’s retail sports betting handle for March 2025 was reported to be $12.1m, representing a decrease of 29.9% from the prior year period.
MGM Grand Detroit reported the highest table game and slot revenue of any property during the period, generating $53.8m for a decrease of 5.1% year-over-year, while MotorCity Casino’s table game and slot revenue fell by 6.4% for a total of $35.9m. Hollywood Casino at Greektown managed to generate $27.1m in table game and slot revenue throughout March 2025, equating to a decrease of just 0.6% year-over-year.
During the first quarter of 2025, Detroit casinos’ table game and slot revenue decreased by 1.2% from the prior year period, marking the second consecutive year in which the figure has fallen following a reported decrease of 1.6% year-over-year during Q1 2024. The $116.8m in total table game and slot revenue generated during March 2025 represents a decrease of 4.5% from the prior year period.
MGM Grand Detroit led the way in market share throughout March 2025, accounting for 46% of all shares while MotorCity Casino and Hollywood Casino at Greektown reported market shares of 31% and 23%, respectively.

During March 2025, the three casinos paid a total of $9.5m in state gaming taxes, compared to $9.9m throughout the prior year period. Additionally, the casinos submitted $13.9m in wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the City of Detroit during the month.
For retail sports betting, qualified adjusted gross receipts (QAGR) witnessed a significant decrease from the prior year period, falling by 64.3% year-over-year for a reported total of approximately $571.2k.
MGM Grand Detroit generated just over $364.7k of QAGR during the period, while MotorCity Casino reported $138.5k in QAGR for March 2025 and $68k for Hollywood Casino at Greektown. For February 2025, fantasy contest operators reported total adjusted revenues of $579.3k and paid $48.7k in taxes.
