Cease-and-desist letter issued to Curaçao-based operator in Michigan

Key Points
- The MGCB has ordered two online casinos to exit the Michigan gaming market
- Both casinos are owned and operated by Curaçao-based Alistair Solutions
The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has issued cease-and-desist letters to both Lucky Tiger Casino and Rich Palms Casino for illegal gambling activities in the state.
Following a tip-off on the two operators, both owned by Curaçao-based Alistair Solutions, the MGCB launched an investigation into the pair which concluded that the casinos were offering unlicensed online gaming options to players in the state. Subsequently, both organizations have been issued a 14-day window – beginning from the date of issue for the cease-and-desist order – to withdraw all gambling operations that are currently being offered to the state’s residents.
At present, Lucky Tiger Casino and Rich Palms Casino are in breach of the Lawful Internet Gaming Act, Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act and the Michigan Penal Code. Therefore, failure to comply with the cease-and-desist order will likely result in financial penalty and further legal action.
Commenting on this latest development, MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams said, “The Michigan Gaming Control Board will continue to make it clear that any operator found to be operating unlawfully will face appropriate consequences.
“This agency has zero tolerance for illegal gambling. We will continue to exercise our regulatory oversight and authority to protect the interests of Michigan citizens and licensed operators and ensure that all online gambling activities available here are compliant with the law.”
Good to know: Michigan iGaming and sports betting revenue reached $268.5m during the month of February
There have been a number of cease-and-desist orders issued by the MGCB in recent months as, following an initial letter sent to BetNow in February, the regulatory body also sent out five additional orders in early March. Most recently, last week, the MGCB issued 10 cease-and-desist letters to operators within the state at once.
