- The regulator created a seal of approval last year for all licensed operators
- This shows players which operators are safe to use
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) has released a statement to encourage safe and responsible play during Super Bowl LIX.
The regulator said, “As sports betting continues to grow in popularity, residents must understand the importance of choosing legal and regulated platforms that prioritize consumer safety and fair play.
“Before placing any wager, the Commission urges the public to take a moment to carefully consider the odds, understand the betting terms and establish clear personal boundaries. Decide in advance how much time and money you are willing to spend and stick to your predetermined limits.”
Good to know: Retail sports betting became legal in Massachusetts in January 2023, and the state welcomed the online sports betting market in March 2023
The MGC has taken steps in recent months to aid players in finding licensed operators when betting.
The commission launched its official seal of approval last November. Licensed operators around the state are required to include it on their digital platforms.
The regulator developed and adopted the seal “to be a clear signal to those who choose to gamble that they are accessing a platform licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by the MGC” and described this move as a “significant step."
The displayed seal can help players within Massachusetts’ borders distinguish which operators offer safe and legal ways to gamble.
In addition to the seal, the commission provides players with an online catalog and an approved list of wagering events throughout the state, as well as access to pages with “house rules” for operators.
