The partnership sees new sports betting features integrated onto the Monumental+ app.

Key points:

- Monumental Sports Network partners with Play Anywhere & BetMGM

- The agreement sees new sports betting features integrated to the Monumental+ app

- Players will now be able to access these features during NBA & NHL games featuring specific Washington-based teams

Monumental Sports Network (MNMT) has entered a new agreement with Play Anywhere and BetMGM for the integration of gamification and real-time sports betting options to the Monumental+ app.

These additions will be available to players on the app during live streams of the NBA’s Washington Wizards and NHL’s Washington Capitals as part of MNMT’s new Monumental Game Center feature. Incidentally, Washington DC posted its highest-ever monthly sports wagering handle of $68.2m in November 2024.

More specifically, the new agreement sees the integration of Play Anywhere’s technology alongside BetMGM’s live odds, in-game prompts and trivia questions which can be accessed in-play. MNMT has also announced the addition of a control bar to the Monumental+ app which features interactive options.

This latest update marks the first time in which this kind of real-time odds and gamification offerings will be available on NBA games – as well as the first time the features will be available to players outside of Nevada.

President of Media & New Enterprises at Monumental Sports & Entertainment, Zach Leonsis, commented on the announcement, saying, “At Monumental Sports & Entertainment, we pride ourselves on having a first-mover mentality and we are ecstatic to lead the way in creating an interactive, next-generation viewing experience for our fans.

“Through this groundbreaking partnership with Play Anywhere and BetMGM, Monumental+ is bringing real-time sports betting and other engaging games to the heart of the action for Capitals and Wizards streams, providing an opt-in experience for viewers to connect with our live broadcasts. This innovative feature is designed to complement our high-quality programming while offering fans more ways to engage with fast-paced NBA and NHL action.”

Good to know: In 2022, Monumental Sports & Entertainment acquired NBC Sports Washington

Also speaking on this newly brokered deal was Matt Prevost, BetMGM Chief Revenue Officer, who said, “BetMGM is constantly seeking innovative ways to enhance the fan experience and ‘go to where our customers are.’ This partnership with Monumental Sports & Entertainment perfectly demonstrates how live odds integration can heighten the enjoyment of a game – and how we continue to raise the bar on technological innovation across sports.”

This latest announcement closely follows the appointment of Casey Hurbis as BetMGM CMO in December. More recently, last week the operator fell under regulatory scrutiny and was fined $260,905 by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board for allowing those placed on self-exclusion lists to gamble on its sites.
