Detroit casinos generate $109.6m in revenue for December 2024

The market shares for retail sports betting in the city favored MGM at 47%, while MotorCity and Hollywood Casino at Greektown finished with a 30% share and 23% share, respectively.

The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has reported gaming revenue results from Detroit’s three casinos, as the properties generated $109.6m in aggregate revenue (AGR) throughout December 2024 for a 5.7% decrease year-over-year.
Table games and slots generated the vast majority of the AGR, reported to be $109.3m for December but still representing a 1.9% decrease from the prior year period. The much larger hit came from monthly retail sports betting and qualified adjusted gross receipts (QAGR), which decreased by 94.2% from the prior year period to be just $280k during December.
Detroit’s sports betting handle throughout December 2024 was reported to be nearly $19.8m, a noticeable drop from the $30.4m reported for the prior year period. December’s sports betting QAGR was also down by 85.6% when compared to November 2024.
MotorCity and Hollywood Casino at Greektown were able to see increases in sports betting QAGR for December, but rose by just $342.6k and $88.4k, respectively. MGM Grand Detroit reported a decrease of over $150k, but was also the only property to see an increase in table games and slot revenue.

The casino resort reported $51.2m for December gaming revenue, an increase of 1.3% from the prior year period. MotorCity and Hollywood Casino at Greektown reported $33m and $25.1m, respectively, which represented decreases of 4.8% and 4.1%. For the full year (FY) 2024, however, table games and slot revenue increased by 4.9% year-over-year.
The MGCB also reported that the $1.29bn generated by the three casinos during 2024 was a 4.3% increase from the total reported for 2023. Slots accounted for the majority of the FY2024 revenue, reported to be $1.03bn, while table games generated nearly $251m and retail sports betting was $9.7m of the total AGR. The figure generated by retail sports betting represents a 30.6% year-over-year decrease for 2024.
MGM also saw the highest market share for retail sports betting at 47%, while MotorCity and Hollywood Casino at Greektown finished with 30% and 23%, respectively.
