MGCB generates more than $501.4m for Michigan’s School Aid Fund in 2024

$400.9 million came from online gaming wagering taxes.

The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has reflected on its contributions to the state’s economy and public welfare in 2024, while also highlighting its efforts to combat illegal gambling.
In total, $501.4m went to the state’s School Aid Fund, with $100.5m coming from casino wagering taxes such as table games, slot machines and retail sportsbooks; while the other $400.9m came from online gaming wagering taxes, such as iGaming, online sports betting and fantasy contests.
On top of this, tax collections by the MGCB went to a number of other causes supporting public safety, helping with responsible gaming initiatives, going towards the agricultural and equine sectors, and assisting with the agency’s “Don’t Regret the Bet” campaign (which won an Emmy).
Looking specifically at Detroit, commercial casinos paid $264.8m in City of Detroit wagering taxes in 2024.
With regards to combatting illegal gambling, the MGCB removed 206 illegal machines and issued six cease-and-desist letters during the course of the year, underlining the help given by citizens of Michigan in these efforts.

This week has also seen the MGCB report on the state’s iGaming and online sports betting financial figures for November, with total revenue reaching $284.3m.
