Michigan iGaming and online sports betting revenue reaches $284.3m, up 12.1%

Sports betting handle reached $650.2m, a record for the Great Lake State.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has released its revenue and handle figures for iGaming and online sports betting in the state for November.
In total, revenue came to $284.3m, up 12.1% month-on-month. Of this, $226m came from iGaming, the highest to date, outperforming the previous high of $220.7m reported in October and reflecting growth of 2.4% month-on-month. The remaining $58.3m was generated by sports betting, up 76.7% month-on-month.
By adjusted gross receipts, the total for the month came to $240.4m, of which iGaming contributed $203.3m and sports betting contributed $37.1m. Year-on-year, this reflects iGaming growth of 28.9%, with sports betting revenue growing sizably, up $36.8m.
Online sports betting in the Great Lake State reached $650.2m in November, the highest on record so far. Month-on-month, this reflects growth of 16%.
In terms of taxes, operators submitted a total of $44.4m to the state. Primarily, this came from iGaming, which contributed $42.5m, while the remaining $1.9m was submitted by online sports betting.
Detroit’s three casinos paid the city a total of $11.2m in taxes from iGaming and sports betting operations, with iGaming accounting for $10.6m, and online sports betting accounting for the remaining $564,069. Overall, the casinos made $108.4m in November revenue.
Tribes contributed $5.2m in taxes to governing bodies during the month.
The MGCB notes that there are 15 commercial and Tribal operators offering these types of play in the state, with all 15 offering iGaming, and 12 offering online sports betting.
In November, BetMGM announced its merged player pools on its app, combining pools from poker players in New Jersey and Michigan. The operator ran a tournament between December 17 and December 1 to celebrate the development. As BetMGM Poker Ambassador Darren Elias explained, “Combining player pools will immediately elevate BetMGM Poker with more games and bigger guarantees.”
