Key points:
- The ads claiming Beau Rivage has online gambling did not come from the casino, operator claims
- Online gaming is illegal in Mississippi
Nearly 40 false ads on social media posts have claimed that online gambling is available at one Mississippi Coast casino, according to a Biloxi Sun Herald local news report.
The fake advertisements made the claim this week that online gambling “is live at Beau Rivage Resort and Casino.”
Specifically, the ads said the casino is “officially online for betting.”
However, Beau Rivage Regional Public Relations Director Mary Cracchiolo confirmed with local news that the casino did not generate or publish these posts.
“It’s not us,” she said. Mississippi Gaming Commission Executive Director Jay McDaniel told the Sun Herald that the social media posts were “a hoax.”
Currently, the legal team at the casino is investigating to find out who could be responsible for the ads.
States with legal iGaming access are Pennsylvania, Delaware, Nevada, New Jersey, Rhode Island, West Virginia and Connecticut.
Good to know: Online gaming is legal in only seven US states, which do not include Mississippi
Sports betting online, however, is legal in the state of Mississippi. The fake ads contained photos of Beau Rivage logos and outdoor shots of the casino that were lifted from the venue’s website, the local report said.
In other state news, the Gaming Commission released its October sports betting results.
Last month, the state generated a $48.6m sports betting handle. Mississippi players wagered less in October than in the previous month.
In a breakdown of the state’s total sports betting handle, Coastal region players wagered nearly $31.9m, while those living in the Central and Northern regions bet $11.3m and $5.4m respectively.
