BetMGM has launched its mobile sports betting app in Iowa in conjunction with Diamond Jo Casino in Dubuque.

BetMGM’s mobile app is now live in eight states.

"I can't think of a better way to kick off the new year than by launching BetMGM in Iowa, a state well known for its passionate sports fans," said BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt. "Our connection with MGM Resorts enables BetMGM users in the Hawkeye State to earn rewards, from hotel suites to dinners at award-winning restaurants, all while engaging in the excitement of our cutting-edge sports betting experience."

Iowa is coming off a record setting November that saw $87m in sports betting handle including $62m placed online. Sports betting revenue for the month was $8.1m.

Diamond-Jo in Dubuque was fourth in the state in handle at $6.7m, with mobile accounting for $5.7m of the casino’s November sports wagers.

Though Iowa lacks a professional sports team, the state is home to two top college athletic programs, the Iowa Hawkeyes of the Big Ten and the Iowa State Cyclones of the Big 12.

The Hawkeyes are one of the top teams in college basketball this year and could realistically make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament, which would boost March Madness handle in the state.
