Michigan man charged with eight felonies tied to illegal gambling

He allegedly made $2m in fictious deposits into his sportsbook account.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has brought eight felony charges against a Southfield man named Jeffrey Saco for gambling violations.
The 38-year-old was brought up on charges following a joint investigation by the MGCB and Michigan Department of Attorney General.
Saco allegedly “made more than $2m in fictitious deposits into his Caesars sportsbook account by exploiting a system vulnerability” in April 2023, the control board said.
Caesars notified the regulator regarding “an account holder who was allegedly engaging in fraudulent activities with his mobile betting account,” which prompted the investigation.
Saco wagered more than $88m during a 16-day period and placed more than 10,000 bets following the alleged deposit.
The investigation found that he had moved $521,000 to his personal account “before ceasing activity on the platform.”
MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams said,“The Michigan Gaming Control Board takes the enforcement of gambling laws and regulations very seriously in this state. To that end, I appreciate the collaborative partnership the agency has with the Michigan Attorney General’s Office and industry personnel at Caesars Entertainment – who initially notified us about this situation.
“It is important to remember that this individual who is facing charges has the right to due process and is presumed innocent until proven guilty. With that being said, we will now let the judicial system determine the truth in this matter and the veracity of the charges.”
Saco was issued a felony arrest warrant based on one count of larceny by conversion, three counts of gambling activity – felony violation and four counts of using a computer to commit a crime.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel commented, “My office not only works alongside the Michigan Gaming Control Board to enforce our state laws prohibiting illegal gaming operations, we also partner to prosecute criminals taking advantage of legitimate gaming venues.
“I appreciate our partnership with the Michigan Gaming Control Board and share their dedication to enforcing our state’s gaming laws.”
