Coljuegos has continued to crack down on illegal gaming practices throughout the Colombian region.
The regulator recently destroyed more than 2,000 elements of luck and chance games that were valued at $445m and “would have stopped transferring around $78.4m annually to the health system.”
The equipment included bingo boards, chairs, slot machines, roulettes, televisions, CPUs, ticket holders, monitors, internet betting modules, code readers and ballot boxes.
Coljuegos has worked to confiscate illegal elements for the past several years. The equipment the regulator has put out of commission is from 2022 up to now.
Coljuegos President Marco Emilio Hincapié briefly discussed the measures the regulator has taken to combat the issues of illegal games of luck and chance.
He said, "When we arrived at the entity, we found more than 6,000 items stored in warehouses for years. We, in addition to destroying this inventory, are already destroying the machines that we have seized during this administration.
"All these illegal machines were removed in operations carried out in the departments of Atlántico, Bolívar, Cesar, Magdalena, Antioquia, Huila, Tolima, Guajira, Córdoba and Cundinamarca. For the first time, the entity is attacking pockets of illegality in areas where control was not exercised before.”
Hincapié went on to add that the organization is committed to ensuring that taxpayer dollars are used for their intended purpose.
He said in closing, "This will allow us to maintain the logistical and operational capacity to continue carrying out control actions in the country.
“We are hitting in a forceful way those who operate bets without paying taxes for health."
Coljuegos serves Colombia as its regulatory body for games and luck and chance.
The organization maintains a philosophy of fostering growth within the industry through sustainable methods. Several notable sites, including Betplay, Rushbet and Codere, follow Coljuegos’ regulations.
