Rio Hotel & Casino recently confirmed that it has laid off “an unspecified number of employees.”
The casino resortreleased a statement discussing the motivation behind the layoffs.
Rio Hotel & Casino said, “We proactively expanded our workforce while taking over operations from Caesars Entertainment in Q4 2023.
“As the resort undergoes extensive construction and remodeling, we now have a better understanding of the staffing levels Rio Las Vegas needs to provide guest service and operational efficiency.”
The Rio went on to express its appreciation for staff by saying, “We deeply appreciate the unwavering commitment and diligence of all our team members and extend our heartfelt gratitude to those directly affected by the adjustments.”
Dreamscape acquired Rio at the end of 2019 from Caesars Entertainment for $516.3m. As part of the deal, Dreamscape leased its operations back to Caesars for a four-year term while the company prepared its renovation plans.
Since acquiring the property, the New York-based company has secured close to $850m in funds to cover the cost of renovations and other projects at the resort.
Updates on the 33-year-old property involve a property-wide overhaul, including both casino and restaurant operations, according to Dreamscape CEO Eric Birnbaum.
The resort recently announced plans for a new culinary marketplace, scheduled to open in January. The Canteen Food Hall will occupy what used to be the Carnival World Buffet.
The Rio described the new marketplace as a “dynamic lineup of first-to-market concepts and Las Vegas favorites that invite locals and visitors alike to explore, indulge and savor in a lively dining experience.”
