DC Council to consider sports betting partnership bill, approves 2025 budget

The DC Council recently approved the city’s $21bn proposal for next year’s fiscal budget, according to a local Washington Post report.
However, the council debated whether it should pass a recent bill that would change the city’s sports betting program through its budget process.
Council member Kenyan R. McDuffie introduced the bill earlier this year. Under the current proposal, the mobile sports betting market would be repaired by allowing major wagering operators a chance to partner with local sports teams.
Office of Lottery and Gaming Director Frank Suarez issued a written testimony, covering the potential impact McDuffie’s bill could have on the local economy. Suarez cited estimates from Office of the Chief Financial Officer, the local report said.
He went on to note that the current bill “would generate about $27m in revenue over four years.”
According to the local report, lawmakers must determine whether Intralot’s contract would be extended. The current contract is due to expire in the middle of next month.
Along with giving the green light to the budget, the council voted to fund more than 600 additional housing vouchers.
In other recent Washington DC news, Elys BMG Group has successfully installed its sportsbook at the city’s The Ugly Mug restaurant and bar. This marks the fourth sportsbook Elys has established in the DC area.
The official opening is subject to District of Columbia Office of Lottery and Gaming’s (DCOLG) final approval.
The recent installation follows a series of Elys Sportsbook launches within the District of Columbia.
Elys said it wants to “become a global leader in the gaming industry through the development of pioneering and innovative online casino and sportsbook software.”
