Bodog Closes Canadian Brand After 30 Years, Relaunches as Ozoon

Bodog has officially ended its Canadian brand after nearly 30 years, relaunching as Ozoon under a Tobique Gaming Commission licence
One of online gambling’s most recognized names has officially exited Canada. After nearly three decades, Bodog has shut down its Canadian brand and relaunched under a new identity. The platform is now operating as Ozoon, marking the end of an era for Canadian online bettors.
A 30-Year Run Comes to a Close
Bodog’s brand owner confirmed the decision in a statement to players. “After nearly 30 years as one of the world’s premiere gambling entertainment brands, the owner of the Bodog brand has decided to discontinue its use by online gambling operators,” the company said.
The transition happened during scheduled maintenance. Player accounts were migrated automatically during that window. Existing customers can access their balances using their current login credentials on the new platform at Ozoon.eu.
The rebrand was framed positively by the operator. “While we are thankful for such a great partnership for so many years, this has presented an exciting opportunity to relaunch under a new brand name,” the company added.
Who Is Behind Ozoon?
The new platform is managed by Rocketship Ventures. It holds a licence issued by the Tobique Gaming Commission, which is part of the Tobique First Nation in New Brunswick.
The commission accepts applications from foreign operators and works with the Differentia Licensing Advisory Group. It promotes responsible and transparent gaming practices as part of its mandate.
Ozoon has positioned itself as a player-focused brand. In its launch messaging, the company described its mission as “delivering what players really want: a wide variety of games, unlimited payouts, meaningful rewards and friendly player support.”
What Changes and What Stays the Same
For existing Bodog customers, continuity is a central theme. Payment methods used by Canadian players will continue to function, including cryptocurrency options. Withdrawal processes and bonus structures also remain available under the Ozoon brand.
On the casino side, Ozoon highlights a curated selection of slots and live table games. The platform emphasizes regular new additions without overwhelming its library. Sports bettors can expect competitive odds on Canadian-popular leagues, live betting, same-game parlays, and custom bet builders.
In addition, Ozoon stresses 24/7 customer support and a track record of treating players fairly. These are points clearly designed to reassure a loyal customer base that values consistency.
Bodog Poker Moves to Ignition
The rebrand also affects poker players across Latin America. Bodog Poker previously served customers in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela.
Those accounts will now transition to Ignition Poker. Customers must download Ignition’s software to regain access. Existing deposit methods, withdrawal options, and bonuses will carry over to the new platform.
Regulatory Pressure Was a Factor
The timing of this move reflects growing regulatory pressure on offshore operators in Canada. Earlier this year, a Manitoba court issued a permanent injunction ordering Bodog to stop advertising and block provincial residents from accessing its platform. The ruling cited the absence of a local operating licence.
Meanwhile, Ontario’s competitive iGaming framework continues to expand. The province allows private operators to compete alongside the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation. Alberta is also developing a similar model to challenge PlayAlberta.
The Canadian Lottery Coalition, formed in 2022 by provincial gaming bodies, has actively pushed to limit offshore gambling and related advertising. An April 2025 Ontario study found that 16% of players still used unregulated sites. However, the same research showed that 83% of Canadian bettors wagered on regulated platforms across 48 licensed markets.
The Legacy of the Bodog Name
Calvin Ayre founded Bodog in the late 1990s. Its sportsbook launched in 2000. The brand became a major force during the early online poker boom before expanding into casino gaming. In 2012, U.S. authorities seized the Bodog domain and indicted Ayre.
That led to a rebrand as Bovada for the American market. Now, more than a decade later, the Canadian chapter has closed as well.
