IGaming revenue and wagering numbers for Ontario have been released today, displaying a total of CA$63bn (US$45.79bn) for wagers placed in the province between April ‘23 and March ‘24 – and resulting in CA$2.4bn in gaming revenue over the same period.
For Q4, Ontario has also released its iGaming figures. Total wagers in the final quarter of the year landed at CA$17.8bn, bringing the 2023-24 total up to CA$63bn. This marks a 78% increase year-on-year. Note that the figure does not include any promotional wagers or bonuses.
IGaming revenue also saw a healthy increase of 72% year-on-year. Q4 iGaming revenue settled at CA$690m, with the 2023-24 figure totaling CA$2.4bn. The leading wagering category was casino, which generated an annual total of CA$1.8bn in gaming revenue from CA$51.7bn wagers placed – peaking in Q4 with CA$510m gaming revenue from CA$14.6bn wagers placed.
This was followed by betting wagers, which produced an annual gaming revenue of CA$588m out of CA$9.7bn wagers placed, peaking in Q3 with CA$171m in revenue of CA$3.1bn wagers placed. P2P (player-to-player) Poker also generated an annual revenue of CA$67m from CA$1.6bn wagers placed, increasing steadily over the year and peaking at CA$19m revenue of CA$446m wagers placed in Q4.
IGaming Ontario Executive Director, Martha Otton, commented on the latest financial results for the province, stating, “With CA$63bn in wagering and CA$2.4bn in gaming revenue, the second year of Ontario’s iGaming market is more than 70% bigger than the first.
"As the market matures into its third year, I look forward to building on this foundation of success with operators and other partners as they invest in Ontario so that Ontarians can continue to play with confidence.”
These results come shortly after a study conducted in Ontario a few weeks ago found that a majority of online players use regulated sites, two years after iGaming was legalized in the region.
