Maryland casino gaming revenue reaches $178.1m for March

This was the fifth-best single month total for the state’s casinos.
Maryland Lottery and Gaming has released figures for the state’s six land-based casinos and their gaming revenue for March.
In total, $178.1m in gaming revenue was generated from the Old Line State’s slot machines and table games, marking the fifth-highest number recorded in the state for its casino program. Compared with this time last year, revenue grew by only a slight 0.9%, however.
As a result, casino gaming contributions also went up, though again it was only by a slight amount.
Contributions to the state increased year-over-year by 2.6% to $76.5m, while contributions to the Education Trust Fund rose 1.8% to $55.2m.
Casino revenues in Maryland also go towards supporting the communities and jurisdictions where the six casinos are located, Maryland’s horse racing industry and small, minority and women-owned businesses.
Looking individually at the casinos, three of Maryland’s land-based venues improved on their March figures from last year, while the other three saw drops in their numbers.
MGM National Harbor brought in the largest amount of gaming revenue as would be expected at $75.1m, but it was Hollywood Casino that saw the largest rise, going up 6% to a total of $8.5m.
Live! Casino & Hotel generated the second-highest revenue amount ($64.8m) no doubt boosted by its 3,874 slot machines. This was up 0.5% only, though.
Rocky Gap Casino recorded the lowest gaming revenue in the state at just over $5m, while it also saw the largest decline year-over-year at 6.7%.
In other state news, last month saw several Maryland lawmakers and casino worker labor unions coming together to push back against a bill that would bring legal iGaming to the state.
