OLG considers three contenders for Caesars Windsor operating license

Ontario’s Caesars Windsor will need to renew its operating license for the first time since it opened, according to a BNN local report.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp (OLG) will have to decide which company will hold licensing for Caesars Windsor. Three heavy hitters have submitted applications for the chance to gain control over the casino’s blackjack tables and slot machines.

Up to now, Caesars Entertainment has held licensing to operate the casino. However, Bally’s Corp and Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment have shown interest in an operating license for Caesars Windsor.

Mohegan currently operates a pair of casinos in the Niagara Falls, Ontario area.

The OLG is supposed to make a final decision later this fall. The company that gains the license will assume responsibility for the casino’s operations in 2025.

Windsor’s Mayor, Drew Dilkens, along with tourism officials and union representatives have agreed that they prefer Caesars to continue holding the operating license, according to the local report.

They said the company’s contributions to the local economy and job market are the reasons why Caesars should be able to get the new license.

During 2022, Caesars Entertainment contributed $669m to the local economy and welcomed 4.4 million visitors, the local report said.

Since the brand’s formation in Reno, Nevada in 1937, Caesars Entertainment has expanded over the years to include facilities that operate under the Caesars, Harrah’s, Horseshoe and Eldorado brand names.
