Las Vegas Sands invests $400,000 in community diversity projects
Casino operator Las Vegas Sands has announced a $400,000 investment into organizations working to empower minority and ethnically diverse groups.
The investment has been made through its charitable giving program, Sands Cares. According to a company statement, the aim of the investment is “helping the community to address systemic racism and remove inherent barriers to advancement and opportunity.”
There are multiple organizations receiving funding from the $400,000 investment, including 100 Black Men Las Vegas, the Urban Chamber of Commerce Las Vegas and Hope for Prisoners.
Ron Reese, senior vice president of global communications and corporate affairs at Las Vegas Sands, commented on the investment. He said: “Since the race-related events of 2020 spared a deeper and more passionate conversation about the impact of systemic racism in our society, we’ve taken a hard look at how our company can more impactfully address race issues and be a catalyst for positive change.
“We’ve taken measured steps to listen to the needs and viewpoints of our team members and met with key leaders of organizations that empower diverse groups to better understand how we can help advance their initiatives and provide solutions.”
Nevada Partners will be receiving the largest part of the investment, totalling $250,000. The organization is focused on education and youth development in the West Las Vegas Promise Neighbourhood. The funds will be used to support literacy programs, youth camps and other initiatives.
