New Jersey sets monthly sports wager handle record with $803m in October

For the third straight month New Jersey set a record sports betting handle, as Garden State sportsbooks took in $803m of wagers for October.
The record pull tops New Jersey’s September mark of $749m. A resounding $744m of sports wagering handle was placed online.
Online casino revenue was $91m, a 109% year-on-year improvement.
New Jersey reported total gaming revenue of $338m for the month, a y-o-y jump of 15%.
James Plousis, chairman of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, said “Casino win was 92% of last October’s performance, even though the two years are not reasonably comparable. During this time, Atlantic City continues to show resilience in the face of necessary and ongoing restrictions on capacity, amenities, and entertainment.”
Borgata led the state’s casinos with revenue of $68m, a 10% increase from a year ago. Golden Nugget grew 22% to $39m while Hard Rock was right behind with $35m, a 24% improvement.
The Ocean Casino Resort saw the greatest y-o-y growth, up 37% to $29m.
New Jersey casinos face an uphill battle to maintain strong revenue in November. Climbing Covid-19 rates have led Gov. Phil Murphy to order a 10 p.m. curfew on all indoor dining, which could diminish late night crowds.
