Rules approved for mobile sports betting in North Carolina
But there is still no start date for when betting will be allowed.
The North Carolina Lottery Commission has approved a number of rules for mobile sports betting as the Tar Heel State moved a step closer to its launch.
The rules cover a variety of areas, such as how companies can advertise to their players, and which sports and leagues betting operators will be able to accept wagers on.
At the end of October, a public hearing was held to establish new rules for sports betting in North Carolina; those rules now look to be in place for when online sports betting is finally introduced.
However, it was not made clear when players will be able to start placing bets, with officials acknowledging earlier this week that betting will not begin on January 8, which was set as the earliest date under law when it can start.
The deadline for sports betting to be officially launched in the state is June 15, but Commissioners are yet to begin accepting applications from sports betting operators.
Chief Legal Officer for the NC Education Lottery, Billy Traurig, commented: “We want to take the time right now to focus on our main goal, which is getting licensees up, operating and running so we can start having sports wagering in the state. Right now, to focus on this would be a distraction.”
