Amazon faces lawsuit regarding virtual casino apps

A Nevada resident sued the company, claiming it offers illegal casino apps.
A resident from the state of Nevada has filed a class-action lawsuit against Amazon, according to a Reuters news report.
The plaintiff claimed that he was “addicted to illegal online slot games” and has accused Amazon.com of offering online customers more than 30 illegal casino apps.
According to the contents of the complaint, Amazon and social casinos “have found a way to smuggle slot machines into the homes of consumers throughout the US, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year.”
The lawsuit went on to say, “Despite knowing that social casinos are illegal, Amazon continues to maintain a 30% financial interest in the upside by brokering the slot machine games, driving customers to them and acting as the bank.”
The suit also claims that Amazon is in a “dangerous partnership” with virtual casinos.
Amazon currently offers free-to-play games through its site, according to the Reuters report. These titles do not produce cash payouts but generate virtual chips that players can win. However, players must buy more to continue playing.
Edelson, a Chicago-founded law firm represents the plaintiff. The firm has handled similar virtual casino app cases and has secured hundreds of millions in settlements from other class-action suits.
Todd Logan, who oversees Edelson’s gambling practice, told Reuters that this is the eighth social casino-related lawsuit the firm has handled.
He said, “We look forward to trying this case to a jury of Amazon’s peers.”
Amazon has not offered to comment on the pending suit.
