Part of Scarlet Pearl Casino floor closed due to camera outage
Around 75% of the gaming floor was affected.
A portion of the casino floor at Scarlet Pearl Casino in D’Iberville, Mississippi, has been closed due to a malfunction of surveillance equipment.
As per gaming regulation, if surveillance cameras are down, the Mississippi Gaming Commission cannot permit gambling in that section of the casino where there is no video coverage.
It was reported that around 75% of the floor was affected early Monday afternoon.
Customers had said on social media that they were asked to leave the casino floor and were told it would take ‘a while’ to make the repairs.
Despite that portion of the casino floor being closed, the resort, hotel and restaurants are unaffected by the closure.
Scarlet Pearl Casino opened in 2015 and cost $290m. In October 2019, the Scarlet Pearl’s Sportsbook took one of the largest bets in sports betting history when they accepted Jim Mcingvale’s $3.5m wager on the Houston Astros to win the 2019 World Series.
Ed Wong, the Deputy Director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission, says that technicians are on-site and working to fix the problem.
“Since we have personnel on-site and there was no power outage, no testing of the games will have to be done,” Wong said. “As soon as the cameras are up, the casino can re-open.
“Most of our casinos have experienced similar events; it does happen from time to time.”
