Louisiana August gaming revenue rises 1.8% to $257.7m
The state’s riverboat and waterfront casinos generated $136.1m of that total, while mobile sports betting revenue was down 16.3% to just over $15m.
The Louisiana Gaming Control Board has posted its August gaming revenue of $257.7m, up 1.8% from August last year. This total is broken down into the state’s: land-based gaming; riverboat casinos; racetracks with slot machines; video gaming terminals at bars, hotels, restaurants, racetracks and truckstops; and both mobile and retail sports wagering.
The Bayou State’s riverboat and waterfront casinos generated the most revenue of any gaming sector, generating $136.1m, with Golden Nugget Lake Charles and La’Auberge Lake Charles bringing in the highest revenues of $26.7m and $23.7m, respectively. This represents a rise from August 2022’s riverboat revenue of $134.7m.
Slots at racetracks brought in the second-highest amount for the state, generating nearly $25.1m total across the Delta Downs, Louisiana Downs, Evangeline Downs and Fair Grounds venues, with Delta Downs leading the table at $12.7m. These figures are fairly stable when compared to the previous August’s slot total of $25.4m.
Video gaming terminals throughout the state brought in a total of $61.6m, down 4.1% year-on-year. Harrah’s New Orleans Casino generated just under $18m in revenue, but made $19.3m in August 2022.
Mobile sports betting wagers in August totaled 138,853,445, up 23.9% year-on-year; however, revenue was down 16.3% to just over $15m. Retail sportsbooks took in 15,080,259 wagers, down 6.9% year-on-year, and made considerably less revenue than August 2022, generating just under $2m, in contrast to $2.2m the previous year. Daily fantasy sports generated $53,575, up 0.3% year-on-year.
DraftKings recently opened a retail sportsbook at the riverboat-turned-land-based venue, The Queen Baton Rouge.
