Yeehaw: The Plaza Hotel & Casino will host Las Vegas Rodeo Days this November
The event will be free to attend and focus on the Western history of Las Vegas in addition to showcasing equestrian events and contests.
The Plaza Hotel & Casino will continue as the host of the Las Vegas Rodeo Days event at the CORE Arena on November 10 and 11. The rodeo is sponsored by a partnership with the Commission for the Las Vegas Centennial.
Audience members can expect to see bull riding, barrel racing, team roping, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, bareback riding and other equestrian activities with prize purses totalling $45,000.
The outdoor festivities will also include historical and western-themed exhibits, a Whiskerino moustache and beard length contest and ‘Mutton Busting,’ during which children ride on sheep-back.
To win the Whiskerino contest, the growers of the longest and most unique facial hair in several categories are also encouraged to dress on theme in Western or pioneer garb. Children competing in the Mutton Busting event must be 4-10 years old and under 60lbs; the winning junior cowpoke will be given a commutative buckle.
The entire event is free to attend, but audiences are encouraged to RSVP online. One of the historical exhibits featured next to The Plaza will be a “Then & Now” exhibit of photography showing downtown Las Vegas through the years.
The Las Vegas Rodeo is sanctioned by both the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association. The event aims to celebrate ‘the spirit of Old Las Vegas’ and the Plaza Hotel plans to support local businesses with several partnership opportunities during the rodeo.
