New Hampshire Representative Laurie Sanborn named as Chair of new charitable gaming commission

New Hampshire state Representative Laurie Sanborn has been selected to chair a new commission designed to evaluate charity gaming operations statewide, according to a local report in the Concord Monitor. She serves as the chair of the House of Ways and Means Committee.

The new commission is comprised of 13 members and will examine the state’s gaming laws to determine if charities around the state are receiving the appropriate portion of the revenue.

Sanborn, along with her husband Andy Sanborn, currently operate the Concord Casino, which has caused some to question whether there could be a conflict of interest regarding Sanborn’s new role.

According to the local news report, the city of Concord recently granted the couple approval in June to build a 43,000-square-foot casino. The move has been challenged in court by residents who claim, “the public was deprived of its due process rights when the Board passed the project without adequate notice.”

Andy and Laurie Sanborn expressed their desire to create a destination that welcomes both visitors and locals.

The couple stated on their casino application, “As multi-generational New Hampshire natives, we are eager to pay homage to all the things we love and admire about why we committed to New Hampshire and Concord.

“We are very excited to present this opportunity to create a gateway property as a welcome sign to those coming to visit or passing through Concord from the west or north.”

Both signed the letter as Concord Commitment LLC’s managing partners, the local report said.  

The couple has not responded for comment at this time.
