Oregon Lottery offers offbeat betting
The state’s DraftKings Sportsbook is taking wagers on some unusual sporting events.
The Oregon Lottery’s DraftKings Sportsbook is offering some rather unique betting action this summer.
Besides betting on traditional sports like basketball and football, DraftKings players in Oregon can bet on how many hot dogs it takes to win the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, held on July 4; Major League Baseball’s Home Run Derby, on July 10; the American Cornhole League World Championship, from July 29 to August 6; and the Tour de France, from July 1 to July 23.
Kerry Hemphill, Oregon Lottery’s Sports Betting Product Manager, said, “Typically, summer isn’t the busiest time for sports betting but there are many opportunities for fun wagers on lesser-known events.”
In 2022, an Oregon DraftKings player bet $100 on the ATP Montreal tennis event and won $29,350. Another player bet $5 on The Open, a British golf tournament, and won $7,350.
The Oregon Lottery launched its digital sports betting in October 2019, during the pandemic.
Back in April, Governor Tina Kotek gave her negative stance on gambling expansion to both the state of Oregon’s nine Indigenous Tribes and the Oregon Lottery.
Her response to pending Tribal casino proposals has been a solid no.
