Venetian Resort valets and traffic controllers join Teamsters union

Employees of the Venetian Resort in Las Vegas have been voluntarily recognized by Teamsters Local 986. The union represents members working in hotels, casinos, the rental car industry and other administrative roles throughout Las Vegas.

Chris Griswold, a VP for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and Secretary-Treasurer of Local 986, commented, “Congratulations to these workers on being the first group of Venetian workers to secure union representation.

“We are pleased to welcome more than 100 new members to Local 986 and we are already preparing to begin negotiations on their first union contract.”

Teamsters Local 986 is the largest local union in the Western United States and also includes Hawaii, Guam and Saipan. It comprises over 18,500 workers.

The union made the announcement that Local 986 will be the ‘exclusive bargaining agent’ for workers within the Venetian Resort’s valet parking services and traffic control officer roles. Teamsters has never previously been recognized at the Venetian.

Jason Carrodine, valet agent at The Venetian Resort, said, “We are thrilled to become members of Teamsters Local 986. We are looking forward to negotiating a strong contract that provides us with written guarantees to ensure that our needs are being met here at The Venetian. This has been a long time coming!”

Last winter, employees at the Venetian also received $11m in bonuses, distributed between all full-time and flex-time workers.
