Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming partners with the IBIA
The partnership aims to monitor and reduce match-fixing within Brazil’s sports betting market.
The Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming (IBJR) aims to monitor and work against match-fixing in both live events and online sports betting by signing an agreement with the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA). IBIA represents 120+ licensed sports betting brands across the world.
Members of IBIA receive alerts from security systems of other member operators to aid in the identification of suspicious bets, as well as provide data that can be used as evidence in investigations. In Brazil, IBIA members make up over 60% of the online gambling market.
IBIA differs from commercial odds monitoring systems with its additional ability to track transactional activities linked to unique consumer accounts.
Both IBIA and IBJR are non-profit organizations run “by operators for operators.” The agreement between them intends to protect the regulated market, ensure integrity and establish high onshore consumer channelling rates.
IBJR CEO, André Gelfi, commented on football match-fixing events as a recent motive for better regulation. He said, “Sector regulation is essential to increase the authorities’ monitoring and collaboration actions to curb match-fixing schemes, protecting sports betting companies and Brazilian bettors.”
Khalid Ali, CEO of IBIA, added, “It is clear from our conversations [with IBJR] that we share the same values and goals for the Brazilian sports betting market. That prioritises the integrity of the betting product and the protection of consumers and sporting events in Brazil.
“We will now be seeking to explore joint projects that progress those important objectives.”
IBJR and IBIA aim to work closely with both policymakers and sports bodies, to reduce risks and ensure a dynamic Brazilian sports betting market.
