Genius Sports’ Second Spectrum extends its partnership with the NBA
The company has been named the official pass augmentation provider for the league.
Second Spectrum, a Genius-affiliated company, has expanded its partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA) to research and develop its next-generation technology platform, Dragon. Under the terms of the extended multi-year agreement, Second Spectrum will represent the NBA as its official pass augmentation provider.
The Dragon platform tracks “mesh” data and is designed to “synthesize millions of on-court basketball data points.”
Genius Sports CEO Mark Locke commented: “As one of the most technologically advanced leagues in world sport, NBA teams, fans, broadcasters and media partners demand cutting-edge innovations.
“We’re thrilled to expand our long-term partnership with the NBA. We are proud that the NBA shares our vision that Dragon can solve the technology challenges of the future.”
The NBA will utilize Second Spectrum’s technology to generate on-court basketball data graphics for NBA League Pass’ alternate telecasts, which feature both player and advanced team statistical insights.
Genius Sports will continue aiding the NBA by providing the league’s 30 teams with services under the amended agreement.
In addition to its partnership with the NBA, Genius Sport has launched free-to-play games via its collaboration with several NFL teams, such as the Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts, Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Rams.
The XFL recently selected Genius Sports to represent the league as an official betting distribution partner, as well as the league’s free-to-play provider.
Genius Sports will hold exclusive distribution rights for all XFL games, per the terms of the deal. The company will be able to deliver game content to its media network and betting partners worldwide.
