Bally’s Chicago receives zoning approval from City Council
This will allow Bally’s to begin construction on its $1.7bn ‘destination’ casino.
Bally’s has seen the Chicago City Council vote to approve an amendment that will allow for the building of Bally’s Chicago Casino. The relevant legislation was Planned Development No. 1426 which authorizes zoning construction for Bally’s $1.7bn flagship Illinois venue.
The first phase of construction will involve the one million square foot casino building, 500-room hotel, 3,000-person event space and dozens of infrastructure upgrades in the surrounding area. On top of this, there will be a significant expanse of public open space for visitors to enjoy.
Chicago aldermen also approved of the ordinance. They highlighted the 3,000 construction jobs, 3,000 permanent jobs, and millions of dollars in tax revenue that the casino projects it will generate annually.
Bally’s Chairman Soo Kim commented: “This is a significant achievement and another critical step forward in the process of developing Bally’s Chicago.
“We are confident that the casino will bring numerous long-term, positive economic benefits, including good-paying, union jobs, to this great city.”
The support comes after the Plan Commission and Committee on Zoning recommended approval of the project to the Chicago City Council earlier this week. During this vote, members from the Bally’s Casino development project described the benefits and resources that the riverfront casino is expected to bring.
They said it would provide ambitious and industry-leading vendor contracting, workforce development and equity ownership opportunities for minorities and women.
Bally’s Chicago is a $1.7bn ‘destination’ casino that will host ‘The Best of Chicago’ arts and culture, food and sports, and curated dining and entertainment experiences. It is located on the 30-acre Chicago Tribune Publishing Center at the intersection of Chicago Avenue and Halsted Street.
