FanDuel, BetMGM and DraftKings lead sports betting markets in Michigan and Pennsylvania
FanDuel boasted 23% and 40% sports betting shares in Michigan and Pennsylvania respectively.
A report by Fantini Gaming Report has shown that the ‘big three’ digital operators – FanDuel, BetMGM and DraftKings – led online sports betting and iGaming market share in Michigan and Pennsylvania during September.
BetMGM boasted a lion’s share of the sports betting market in Michigan with 32%, buoyed by iGaming shares of 36% within the state. Flutter’s FanDuel came in second with a 23% market share, mainly due to its impressive 40% share of the Great Lake State’s sports betting revenue.
FanDuel also performed well in Pennsylvania, where it garnered a 44% sports betting market share. In the iGaming field, PENN Entertainment’s Hollywood Casino led with an impressive 43% stake of the market.
The Hollywood Casino has DraftKings, BetMGM and PENN Entertainment all operating online casino gaming there, which goes a long way to explaining its success.
Looking at Michigan, Detroit’s retail casinos’ September performance fell from August, posting an overall revenue of $12.5m, compared to $16.5m in the prior month. However, this monthly result was largely in line with the Motor City’s year as a whole, with August being its most profitable month by far.
MGM Grand Detroit was the highest earner in the city, posting a total adjusted revenue (TAR) of $48.4m, which generated $3.9m in tax for Michigan.
MotorCity Casino came in second with $31.3m TAR, which was a notable year-on-year drop from the $36.5m it made in September 2021. The Hollywood Casino at Greektown reported a $21m TAR. All Detroit casinos provided $8.2m in total state wagering taxes for the state.
