El Cortez spends $3m to remodel 47 rooms

The downtown Las Vegas location brought a tropical aesthetic to the location.
A $3m renovation to 47 rooms located within the El Cortez Hotel in downtown Las Vegas has been completed, bringing a tropical look to what are known as the “Original 47” rooms.
These rooms debuted when the casino first opened back in 1941, originally being used as boarding and meeting rooms.
The renovation redesigned the rooms to feature seafoam green walls with green fawn wallpaper, brass bed frames and midcentury-style furniture with marble and brass accents.
El Cortez General Manager Adam Wiesberg commented: “We’re proud of our history at El Cortez Hotel & Casino. With this renovation, we’ve elevated the Original 47 rooms to meet the needs of today’s modern traveler while keeping the timeless, vintage charm our guests expect and appreciate.”
This isn’t the first renovation at the location either as a $28m property renovation first began in 2020. The property remodeled its 200-room tower and redesigned its casino floor and the high-limit room.
The Vegas History Hallway was also announced by the hotel and casino in partnership with the Mob Museum.
The hallway features authentic images and information plaques about the city’s history and El Cortez, which was previously owned by Bugsy Siegel, Meyer Lansky, Gus Greenbaum and Moe Sedway.
The Mob Museum issued a statement saying: “The Mob Museum and The El Cortez are iconic downtown Las Vegas institutions, are well-suited partners and have had the opportunity to work together on a number of occasions.
“This exhibit felt like a natural way to extend the story and the Museum’s mission to advance the public understanding of organized crime’s history and impact on American society, as the El Cortez is Las Vegas’ longest continuously operating hotel-casino, and was once owned by mobster Benjamin ‘Bugsy’ Siegel.”
The El Cortez transitioned to a 21-and-older-only facility on April 1, joining Circa Resort & Casino.
