FanDuel wins approval recommendation from Nevada Gaming Control Board
Final licensing approval is expected to take place on August 25.
During the recent Nevada Gaming Control Board meeting, it was revealed that the FanDuel sportsbook operation has received approval recommendation, with a final licensing approval meeting expected at the end of August.
FanDuel is a subsidiary of industry giant Flutter Entertainment, although it has performed well enough to raise questions of whether it will break away independently. If approved, FanDuel will be licensed to operate within Boyd Gaming Corp.’s Fremont casino property in downtown Las Vegas.
FanDuel is the first daily fantasy sports (DFS) operation to seek licensing in Nevada.
The Fremont location would use FanDuel’s branding but the sportsbook would continue to be run by Boyd personnel. Under the agreement between the two companies, FanDuel would provide advice on odds and risk management through Boyd’s IGT sports-betting system.
Executives have told gaming regulators there are no immediate plans to introduce FanDuel’s mobile gaming technology in Nevada.
A Boyd spokesperson also stated that the FanDuel partnership would exist primarily at the Fremont location and not at Boyd’s other Southern Nevada properties.
A concern aired by the board surrounded players potentially being confused as to who to approach when solving disputes. FanDuel CEO Amy Howe affirmed that FanDuel would have only an advisory role to Boyd Gaming in such matters.
Earlier in August, the company named Andrew Sneyd to the position of Executive Vice President of Marketing.
In his role, Sneyd will oversee the core marketing functions across the company’s entire portfolio of brands within sports betting, daily fantasy sports, casinos, advance-deposit wagering, retail and free-to-play.
FanDuel Group CCO Mike Raffensperger said: “Since his arrival at FanDuel, Andrew has elevated our creative efforts and continued our explosive growth.
“His acumen for brand marketing has separated us from the field and under his leadership, I expect that we will continue to make moments matter more for our customers.”
Howe told Nevada Gaming Control Board members that FanDuel has no plans to open an office in Las Vegas.
