Fonner Park casino company applies for gaming license in Nebraska
A temporary casino could be in place by the end of 2022.
Fonner Park has applied for a gaming licensing with the Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission. The company plans to build a casino at Grand Island’s Fonner Park, pending license approval.
Once the application is approved, Fonner Park can build a temporary casino as soon as by the end of the year.
Elite Casino Resorts also announced that it had submitted a gaming license application. In a released statement, the company said it filed the application under the name Grand Island Casino Resort.
Fonner Park recently announced a casino operating partnership with Elite Casino Resorts. Both companies hope the application process and license approval is expedient.
Elite Casino Resorts CEO Dan Kehl commented: “Should approval be received, Grand Island Casino Resort at Fonner Park will open as a temporary casino inside the existing Fonner Park facility by late 2022 with 300 slot machines, five table games and a grab and go dining option.”
Permanent casino construction is expected to begin in 2023 and finish at some time during 2025. The completed resort will be comprised of a 37,000 square foot casino floor with 650 slot machines, 20 table games and a sportsbook. The facility will also include four restaurants with rooftop dining, a show lounge and sports bar, a 116-room boutique hotel, a salon and spa, gift shop, an indoor and outdoor pool with an expansive deck and a 400-stall parking garage.
Elite Casino released a statement saying the company would begin accepting employment applications once the license is approved.
The state racing and gaming commission has not commented on the status of Elite Casino’s application.
