Las Vegas set to host 2024 Super Bowl
Official announcement is scheduled for Wednesday.
Las Vegas has been chosen to host Super Bowl LVIII in 2024, pending final approval from the owners, according to sources familiar with the process. The arrival of the Raiders in 2020, along with the opening of Allegiant Stadium, have made Las Vegas a top contender to host.
League owners will be meeting in Dallas this week, and an official announcement is expected Wednesday.
The NFL has yet to comment about the upcoming announcement.
New Orleans had been originally selected to host Super Bowl LVIII. But the regular season will be pushed ahead by one week. The NFL added a 17th game to its schedule. This will move the season-ending championship game to February 11, 2024 instead of February 4, creating a scheduling conflict in New Orleans because of its annual Mardi Gras.
New Orleans surrendered Super Bowl LVIII in favor of assuming the assignment for Super Bowl LIX in 2025, scheduled for February 9, a date that won’t conflict with Mardi Gras.
Las Vegas then put together an ambitious and multi-leveled plan to convince NFL owners of its viability to accommodate the event. The city’s reputation as one of the entertainment capitals of the world coupled with the necessary hotel, convention center and activation space were convincing arguments in luring the event to Southern Nevada.
In addition to Super Bowl LVIII, Las Vegas is also scheduled to host the Pro Bowl on February 6 and the NFL draft April 28 through April 30.
