Brazilian Olympic Committee launches match-fixing awareness course
The course is one of several promoting responsible gaming by the Brazilian Olympic Institute.
The Brazilian Olympic Committee has launched a course this week tackling match-fixing in sport. The course, titled ‘Combating Match-Fixing, Together in Defense of Responsible Gaming,’ was made possible through the Brazilian Olympic Institute (IOB). The course discusses the risks, consequences and ways to protect oneself from the practice. The course emphasizes ideals like fair play and sports integrity, good practices and more.
Brazilian Olympic Committee Education and Development Executive Manager Sebastian Pereira said, “The 2025 Safe Sport Forum is an important milestone to protect the integrity and values of sport against match-fixing. The main strategy to combat this global threat is information and awareness and, in this sense, we are launching the new course to combat match-fixing.
“By empowering athletes, coaches, referees and all other sports professionals with knowledge, we transform these professionals into the first line of defense to ensure a fair and inspiring sport for the next generations, in alignment with the Olympic values.”
The course is available via IOB’s online platform, is free for athletes, coaches, trainers and others and takes an estimated hour to complete. It is part of IOB’s wider Safe Sport program, which covers a range of other responsible gaming topics. These include ‘Preventing and Confronting Harassment and Abuse in Sport’, ‘Ethical Conduct in Practice’ and ‘Anti-Racist Sport: Everyone Wins’, among others.
The launch comes shortly after the Brazilian Government launched its own anonymous platform for reporting suspected match-fixing. The platform, Apita Cidadão (Citizen Whistle), provides reports that can then be analyzed by police.
