Brazil: Influencer couple probed for illegal gambling and $4m laundering scheme

The Civil Police of Minas Gerais launched an operation targeting a couple of digital influencers accused of running an illegal gambling and money laundering scheme.
According to investigators, Pedro Vitor and Aline Cavanellas allegedly promoted unauthorized betting platforms, particularly the notorious Fortune Tiger, or “Jogo do Tigrinho” as it’s called in Brazil.
The couple used their social media profiles to attract followers with promises of quick and easy profit.
The pair reportedly shared daily videos flaunting supposed jackpots and lavish purchases, most of which were filmed on demonstration platforms designed to simulate wins.
This strategy, authorities said, created a false perception of success and lured followers into the betting scheme.
The investigation also uncovered evidence of suspicious transactions totalling BR21m ($4m) and a portfolio of at least 15 properties, including luxury homes.
Police have not yet confirmed whether any arrests were made. Both the Civil Police and the influencers’ legal representatives were contacted but had not commented at the time of reporting.
According to authorities, these online gambling operations function without transparency and remain outside Brazil’s regulatory framework.
According to related reports, the case mirrors similar investigations across Brazil, where influencers have been accused of collaborating with unlicensed operators to promote illegal platforms under the guise of sponsorships or brand partnerships.
Authorities have warned that this growing trend exploits the trust of young audiences, often disguising fraudulent schemes as legitimate entertainment or investment opportunities, while generating massive profits for criminal networks behind the scenes.
Many platforms are based abroad, often in Malta, beyond local jurisdiction.
Investigators warn that the game algorithms are deliberately structured to guarantee profit for operators, keeping players hooked through illusion rather than chance.
