Aristocrat granted motion to review L&W math models

Key Points
- Aristocrat has been granted a motion to review mathematics used in Light & Wonder titles
- This request was previously denied, but has now been granted by the Nevada Courts
Aristocrat’s ongoing litigation with Light & Wonder has taken another twist as the Nevada District Court has now granted the supplier’s renewed motion to obtain math models to specific L&W hold and spin titles.
Now, Aristocrat will undertake a review of the mathematics used in Light & Wonder Hold and Spin games designed and released after 2021, when Emma Charles – designer of Aristocrat’s Dragon Train title – joined L&W. Interestingly, the court previously denied a similar motion from Aristocrat – who gained a preliminary injunction against Light & Wonder centred around its Dragon Train title last September.
Speaking on this latest development as part of its release, Light & Wonder stated, “While we are disappointed with the Court’s ruling, we remain confident, based on the expert review we previously disclosed, that there is no evidence of Aristocrat math being used in any commercially released games other than Dragon Train and Jewel of the Dragon.”
This latest complaint by Aristocrat against its competitor was filed in late Q1 2025, with Light & Wonder subsequently providing Aristocrat with mathematical models related to the games questioned in the litigation.
Good to know: Last month, it was announced that Light & Wonder iGaming CEO Dylan Slaney would be moving on to take over as the new head of Aristocrat’s Interactive division
For Light & Wonder, this latest legal case is being fought alongside additional patent infringement proceedings with Evolution – which is now being settled out of court. Elsewhere, this month also saw the supplier introduce a new social campaign for cancer research.
On the other side of the coin, Aristocrat has had a busy start to the year’s fourth and final quarter, after having been named as a Founding Member of UNLV’s AI research hub in early October, the company also announced plans to acquire Awager earlier this month
