Illinois Governor JB Pritzker reported a $1.4m blackjack pot win from a Las Vegas trip in 2024 as part of his federal tax return, describing himself as “incredibly lucky” when speaking to local reporters about the news on October 16.
“You have to be to end up ahead, frankly, going to a casino anywhere,” Pritzker said.
The Illinois Governor stated the Las Vegas casino win was a “net number” from multiple wins and losses throughout the trip, having reported a total net income of $10.66m in 2024. Pritzker currently maintains a net worth of approximately $3.9bn, as his family is well known for owning the Hyatt Hotels and Resorts hospitality chain.
“Anybody who’s played cards in a casino, you often play for too long and lose whatever it is you won,” Pritzker added.
“I was fortunate enough to have to leave before that happened.”

At the time of writing, a spokesperson for Pritzker’s campaign stated the Illinois Governor plans to donate all winnings from the Las Vegas trip, although no filing or announcement of Pritzker contributing the funds have been reported.
