Argentinian streamer Joaco López raided over alleged illegal gambling promotion

Key Points
- The search was ordered by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office on Games of Chance under Article 301 bis of Argentina’s Penal Code
- López, one of the country’s most-followed streamers, had been warned twice before to stop promoting gambling content
Authorities executed a raid on the home of Joaquín “Joaco” López, an Argentinian content creator, in connection with allegations that he promoted unauthorized online gambling platforms.
The operation was conducted under order from the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office on Games of Chance, led by prosecutor Juan Rozas, and approved by the Criminal and Contraventional Court No. 4.
The investigation centers on suspected violations of Article 301 bis of the Argentine Penal Code, which penalizes organizing or promoting unlicensed gambling.
Investigators allege that López used his social media reach to advertise and encourage participation in an online casino that lacked legal authorization. The probe also suggests he offered economic incentives to attract new users and increase betting activity.
López has been formally questioned twice: in November 2024 and April 2025, and had previously been notified to cease any promotional activity linked to gambling. Despite that warning, he continued to feature such content on his streaming channels and social media.
Following the raid, López made light of the situation on X, posting: “Good morning, I just woke up and my computer’s gone, did anyone see it?”
Good to know: In July, 16 Argentinian influencers were sanctioned for promoting illegal gambling and agreed to publish awareness content instead of serving jail time
The search aimed to seize digital devices and documentation that could serve as evidence in the ongoing investigation. Under Argentinian law, violations of Article 301 bis can carry prison sentences ranging from three to six years for those found to have organized, facilitated or promoted illegal gambling.
López rose to prominence during the pandemic and is now one of Argentina’s most-followed streamers. His case highlights growing attention from regulators and prosecutors toward influencers who use their platforms to promote unlicensed betting sites.
Odds tell a story long before the result does. When bettors learn to read that story properly, betting becomes a matter of discipline and value rather than emotion or guesswork.
