Massachusetts casinos report record GGR for October

The state has three properties, Encore Boston Harbor, MGM Springfield, and Plainridge Park Casino.
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has this week revealed the financial results of its three casinos for the month of October. Per the reports, the state’s properties have reported record Gross Gaming Revenue as the region continues to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.
The first of the state’s three properties, the Encore Boston Harbor, reported a record total slot and table Gross Gaming Revenue of $62.8m, leading to the property contributing approximately $16m in state taxes. Of this GGR, $32.2m came from slots while $30.58m came from table games. The state’s total coin in for October came in around $10m higher than the previous month, reaching $376.9m.
Unlike the Encore, total slot and table GGR at the MGM Springfield did not break its monthly record; it did however have a strong month, reaching $21.4m. Of this, $16.8m came from slots while just over $4.5m came from table games. The MGM-operated property paid a total of $5.36m in state taxes for the month of October. In total, since records began in August 2018, the property has earned a total GGR of $695.25m from a total coin in of around $6.2bn.
Finally, the Plainridge Park Casino reported a monthly slot GGR of approximately $11.7m, falling just short of September’s $11.99m. The properties coin in for the month was around $170.5m. Meanwhile, the casino paid $4.69m in taxes from these slot games.
According to the state’s gaming commission, 20% of taxes paid by these properties go to local aid, while 15% goes to transportation infrastructure and a further 14% goes towards education. In total, around 9.5% is reinvested in the Gaming Economic development fund.
