DraftKings brings back the Sports Betting National Championship

This comes after a pandemic-induced hiatus.
DraftKings has announced that it will hold a second Sports Betting National Championship (SBNC) at the Envue Hotel in Weehawken, New Jersey from Friday, November 5 to Sunday, November 7. This comes over two years since the first SBNC which, while popular, was postponed in intervening years due to the pandemic.
Customers wishing to enter the tournament will have to pay a $10,000 entry fee. Of this, per person $5,000 will be put toward the tournament Bankroll and $4,500 toward the prize pool. Every contestant gets provided with a designated tournament account.
While it is still unknown how big November’s event will be, the first SBNC in 2019 had 242 participants which made for a $2.5m prize pool with the winner receiving $1m.
The event’s organizers have sought to remedy some flaws that were evident at the first iteration of SBNC. For one, they’ve moved it from January to November so that there would be more sporting events that participants can bet on. This year people will be able to make wagers on NBA games, NFL games and college football.
Another charge against the first SBNC was that games ending late would eat into the time it would take for bettors to stake their winnings on the next competition. A new timeframe will be implemented so that players can spread their action more evenly across the event, thereby avoiding any unwanted overlap.
One new feature at upcoming event that was not on anyone’s radar at the last: all in attendance will have to take a rapid PCR Covid-19 test before being allowed to enter the building.
