California’s largest casino relaxes Covid-19 measures

The Pechanga Resort Casino will loosen mask restrictions and reopen nearly all slot machines.

The biggest Casino in California will reopen most of its slot machines and ease mask restrictions for vaccinated visitors. The casino will no longer require staff and guests who have received their Covid-19 vaccinations to wear masks.

With these relaxations came the decision to reopen the majority of the casino’s gaming attractions.

The Pechanga casino has over 5,000 slot machines and 158 table games, which have been running at reduced capacity since the resort’s reopening in June 2020.

However, in accordance with the advice given by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the state government recommendations, those who are yet to receive their vaccination will still be required to wear masks indoors.

Staff members who can provide proof of their vaccination to the Pechanga human resources department will receive a $100 gift card.

The news comes a month after the resort spa, hotel and its pool area named The Cove were reopened. This also saw the launch of a new restaurant, named the 1882 Cantina. A name inspired by the decision of US President Chester Arthur to re-establish relations with the Pechanga tribe in 1882, setting aside 4,000 acres for the Pechanga Indian reservation.

This decision reflects that of other US tribal casinos. Indeed, May saw masks become optional at all of the Cherokee Nation and Seminole Indian Tribe of Florida’s casinos.
