Indiana April sports betting handle reaches $236m

Indiana sportsbooks reported April handle of $236m, a 25% decrease from March.
Handle was its lowest since October, 2020.
Revenue for the month was $20m, a 24% drop from the prior month.
The slowdown in Hoosier State sports wagers was expected coming off a prolific March Madness. The NCAA Tournament was played entirely in Indiana.
Even with March Madness in the rear-view mirror, basketball was the most wagered on sport, representing $76m, or 32%, of the handle. The NBA’s Indiana Pacers are in contention for a postseason berth.
Mobile wagers accounted for 91% of the total handle last month.
DraftKings/Ameristar Casino generated online wagers of $79m, coming in well ahead of second place FanDuel/Blue Chip Casino at $67m.
Revenue was a closer battle between first and second; DraftKings earned $6.1m to FanDuel’s $5.7m.
BetMGM/Belterra Casino produced another $31m worth of handle and $3.1m of revenue to take third.
Hollywood Casino, partners with PointsBet, led the state in retail handle at $8.4m, followed by Ameristar at $5.2m and Horseshoe Hammond/Caesars at $2.8m.
The Indiana sports betting market is only getting more crowded.
WynnBet launched on April 1 while TwinSpires entered in the last week of the month. Both sportsbook partnered with Rising Star Casino Resort.
Barstool Sportsbook is also imminently planning an Indiana launch.
