O.J. Simpson settles defamation lawsuit against the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas

Former NFL star O.J. Simpson has settled a defamation lawsuit against the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas related to a 2017 incident where he was accused of a drunken incident at the hotel bar.

Simpson’s lawyer, Malcolm LaVergne, told entertainment gossip website TMZ, “The Simpson/Cosmopolitan matter has been resolved.”

Simpson was said to be seeking $50,000 in damages from the Cosmopolitan.

Simpson visited the casino in November 2017, shortly after being released from prison on parole. He had served approximately nine years in jail for armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and 10 other charged over a 2007 incident at Palace Station.

While visiting the Cosmopolitan, Simpson reportedly was publicly intoxicated and belligerent, leading to the hotel banning him from their property.

In 2019 Simpson filed a defamation lawsuit against the Cosmopolitan, arguing the hotel had falsely accused him of being drunk, causing harm to his reputation.

Lawyers of the Cosmopolitan countered that it was impossible to damage Simpson’s reputation any further. Simpson, of course, was acquitted of murdering his former wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman in 1995.

A five-time Pro Bowl running back, Simpson eventually settled in the Las Vegas valley. The 73-year old regularly posts on social media pictures and videos of his local golfing excursions.
